Phantom Limb of our (grand)^n fathers

Ammonites became extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period about 65 million years ago. Most people believed their extinction was caused by a meteorite that crashed into the Earth near Mexico killing most of the life on Earth - including the dinosaurs.(1)

As abundant as fish are, they are relatively rare as fossils. Fish are so easily broken up after death that they make poor candidates for fossilization.(2)

Amber is the common name for fossil resin that is appreciated for its inherent beauty and is widely used for the manufacture of ornamental objects. Although not mineralized it is sometimes considered and used as a gemstone. Most of the world's amber is in the range of 30-90 million years old.(3)
